The vehicles collided on the 300 block of Saddle River Road, propelling both vehicles off the roadway, incident photographer Boyd A. Loving said.
Police told Daily Voice that one car was turning and didn't see the other.
"A Volkswagen Tiguan came to rest on the front lawn of a nearby home, and a Mazda CX5 came to rest after it mounted a decorative retaining wall in the parking lot of an animal hospital," Loving said.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center's main campus for treatment. A paramedic team met the ambulance en route to the hospital in response to one of the victims, who was complaining of chest pains, Loving said.
